On Friday, 39 of our PP2 children put on their black and red gowns and graduated from Hands of Love Educational Centre. Next year they start Grade 1. Yesterday, they were the stars of the show.
The hall where we held the event was full to the doors. About 400 parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, pupils and friends came to cheer them on. Every chair was taken, and families stood along the walls and in the doorways.
A day full of colour
The celebration opened with a cultural troupe, with drums, dancing and plenty of energy. Then our children took over.
The catwalk was a highlight. Little doctors in white coats, engineers in hard hats and reflective vests, and chefs in aprons strutted down the aisle, showing everyone who they want to become. Others proudly wore traditional and cultural outfits. One young lady stole the show in a dress made entirely from recycled newspaper, with a long ruffled train and a matching fan. The crowd loved it.
Our younger classes joined in too, lining up on stage in bright, home-made outfits for their own moment in the spotlight.
The big moment
Then came the graduates. In their gowns and caps, the class of 39 walked in through a corridor of clapping families and took their places on stage. Some waved. Some looked very serious. All of them looked proud.
We were honoured to welcome our chief guest, Winfred Mutua, Sub-County Education Officer, and our founder, Terry Little. Both spoke to the children and their families, then together presented each graduate with a certificate on stage, with a family photo to remember the day.
We finished the way every good celebration should: with cake and good food. Four cakes spelled out one message, Congrats, Class of 2026, You Made It.
Why it matters
These children have spent their early years learning to read, count, share and dream big. A strong start like this should be possible for every child in Kariobangi, whatever their background.
Thank you to our teachers, who spent the year preparing these children for school and for life. Thank you to our parents, who show up for their children every day. And thank you to every supporter who makes Hands of Love possible. This day belongs to you too.
Congratulations, Class of 2026. We’re so proud of you. Go shine in Grade 1!
