Schools Reopening
On Monday 10th May, 2021, we received our students back for the third term of 2020 school year after a seven weeks school break. This came after the lifting of the partial lockdown which had restricted meetings or events including social gatherings. The lockdown lasted a whole month, from 26th March to 1st May and had put the school reopening in doubt, It also forced us to pause in-person activities at school including food program that we had planned during the school break
During the first week of the term, approximately 140 students reported back out of the expected 154 which puts our reporting rate at slightly more than 90% . By middle of the second week 150 children had reported back, unfortunately the four students who had not reported will not be coming back. We have fully resumed learning and our food program, serving two meals a day is running smoothly.
We continue to observe measures aimed at controlling the spread of COVID 19. That includes maintaining social distance in classrooms, routine temperature checks, and regular hand washing and hand sanitising. We have also installed 3 more hand washing points with constant supply of clean water and soap for the kids. In addition to the above measures all our staff have gotten at least the the first dose of the Astra Zeneca-Oxford COVID-19 vaccine.
Grade 2 and grade 1 children have started working on school garden which was a bit neglected during the school break. At the moment we are growing corn, spinach, spring onions, mint, lemon tree, comfrey and strawberry. In addition we are also raising 30 chickens in a coop next to the garden. The hens lay about 20 eggs daily which we have added to the food program. The compost from the coop has helped improve the garden significantly.
